Chrissy Amphlett, lead singer of the Divinyls, passed away yesterday at the tragic age of 53, after battling breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. Formed in Sydney in 1980, the Divinyls quickly made a name for themselves in Australia in no small part because of their dynamic front woman. It wasn’t until 1991, however, that the band broke in the States, with the release of the undeniable “I Touch Myself.” After the band disbanded in 1997, Amphlett continued to make music and also performed in the original touring production of the musical A Boy From Oz. In 2006, the Divinyls reunited to be inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame.
