In the second collaboration between Ryan Gosling and Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, the Gos looks exactly as silent and violent as his Drive self — which makes sense because apparently his character’s mom knew he was a human doomsday since he was a fetus. Gosling drags a man by the jaw. He watches extreme violence with utmost boredom. We witness that sadistically battered face in motion for about a second. The film’s presumably unspeakably brutal fight scenes are being kept behind the curtain for now, but that’s okay. The jaw-dragging thing was plenty.
