It’s hard to tell if this concept came together just because Willie Nelson sort of has Gandalf’s hair or just so Willie Nelson could say, “You shall not pass … an unlit joint, man.” Either way, Ian McKellen has definitely seen this thing, tweeting, “Dear Willie, You are far too young to play Gandy.But nice try; have a stoner of a birthday. Love and admiration. Ian.” Two things about that: Nelson is actually six years older than McKellen, and McKellen knew Nelson’s 80th birthday is on Tuesday. Double-awww!
