Director Richard Linklater Hopes to Shoot a ‘Spiritual Sequel’ to ‘Dazed and Confused’ This Year

Dazed and Confused director Richard Linklater is working on a “spiritual sequel” to the classic 1993 ensemble comedy. Linklater has been developing the project for several years, but he revealed yesterday during a Reddit AMA that the movie may be going into production soon. When asked about the status of the film during the Q&A, Linklater replied, “Hoping to make it this fall, actually. A college comedy. I feel like mixing it up with a big ensemble.” While the untitled movie, formerly called That’s What I’m Talking About, won’t follow any of the characters from Dazed and Confused, it will be similar to the movie in terms of style and form, following an ensemble of kids during their first week of college in 1980. If there’s anybody who knows how to make a great sequel, it’s Richard Linklater, who made the critically-acclaimed sequel Before Sunset in 2004 to his 1995 romantic drama Before Sunrise and has done it again with the third part in the series, Before Midnight, which is opening this weekend to strong reviews.
