Ryan Fogle, the alleged U.S. spy captured by Russian security agents while wearing a terrible wig, has not only embarrassed Senator Dianne Feinstein, he’s also disappointed Peg Schierholz, head of the hair department on The Americans. “Perhaps I should share the secret of the show’s 1981 Soviet wig technology with the CIA,” she told Vulture. “Where to begin? The fit, the shape, the color, the shine? Oh my God, what $100,000 could have bought!” According to Schierholz, who picks the many, many wigs worn by series stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, a decent wig runs between $5,000 and $10,000. Fogle would have been better choosing one with less hair (“so his head doesn’t look ginormous”) in a color that works with his skin (“he wasn’t strong in that department either”). “The expression on his face, to me, says, ‘Maybe I should have worn the black one,’” Schierholz laughed.
