The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show: Summer Movie Previews

“I saw the poster that said “the new movie from the director of District 9” and I was like, don’t even show me the trailer, I’m there. Then I saw the trailer anyways and it looked pretty good” - Jeff on Elysium

This week on the Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show, Jeff is joined by Patrick Cassels to talk about the upcoming summer movies.

They have five minutes to talk about each movie; here’s a list of the movies they bring up:

  • G. I. Joe 2

  • Fast And Furious Six
  • After Earth
  • Now You See Me
  • Much Ado About Nothing
  • Man of Steel
  • Monsters University
  • World War Z
  • The Lone Ranger
  • Pacific Rim
  • RIPD
  • The Wolverine
  • 300: Rise of an Empire
  • Elysium
  • Kick Ass 2
  • Riddick
  • Machete Kills
  • “You know where it is going to go, because you’ve seen Monsters, Inc. Monsters, Inc. also has this x-factor with the whole thing with Boo. It’s not just about Mike and Sulley, it’s about Mike, Sulley and Boo, and she is what is really unique about that movie, and the whole relationship between her and Sulley. What is “The Boo” of this movie?” - Jeff Rubin on his concerns about Monsters University.

“I love monsters in movies. I like a good creature and I like a good weird tentacly thing. I like the puppetry or the CGI of it. Guillermo del Toro is the best at that. His last movie was Hellboy 2 in 2008. He kind of got caught up in The Hobbit for a while so he hasn’t made a movie in a while, and he is also making a million other things. So it’s just the first Guillermo del Toro in a long time, it’s an original story and it’s got a lot of the actors that I like.” - Jeff Rubin on why he is probably the most excited about Pacific Rim

“This is a real testament to how really weird he is that, Pacific Rim a movie about sea monsters fighting robots is actually the most mainstream movie he has ever made. This is certainly the biggest movie he has ever made. It is up his alley with these inter-dimensional sea creatures, but at the same time it got this Transformers aspect to it.” - Patrick Cassels on Pacific Rim and Guillermo del Toro
