TV on the Radio has been mostly quiet since the release of 2011’s Nine Types of Light and the tragic passing of their bass player, Gerard Smith. Here is their first single since then. Entitled “Mercy,” it’s super great. More heavy and straight-forwardly punk than their last two records, it still features much of what fans have come to expect from TVOTR: sonic textures, dynamic vocals, genre blending. There’s no word on a new album, but talking to Huffington Post, the band remarked the song “came to fruition with such ease that it felt like an invitation to get back to this good work.” If that’s not enough, also consider this an invitation.
