NBC will air Mark Burnett’s follow-up to the megapopular miniseries The Bible. The network announced today that it will broadcast A.D.: Beyond the Bible, which will cover the political unrest in Judea after Jesus’ crucifixion. (For those a little rusty on their catechism, the Christian Bible does not in fact end with Jesus’ resurrection. There’s a lot of stuff after that. Give the Pauline Epistles a spinoff!) The Bible — the show, not the Bible — was a ratings bonanza for the History Channel, so it’s not too shocking that the flailing NBC might want a piece of the sweet, sweet Jesus pie, but one wonders how the stories of the Herodian dynasty will pair with, oh, Celebrity Apprentice.
