Don Jon is about a dude who is obsessed with porn, and so the audience is subjected — more than once — to a raunchy montage of his porn preferences. This makes you wonder: Who was in charge of picking out all that porn? We asked this of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who wrote, directed, and starred in the movie, last night. Turns out, it was Joseph Gordon-Levitt himself. But he wasn’t always happy doing the research (get your mind out of the gutter). “It was a pretty tedious and time-consuming task,” he told us at a screening of the movie hosted by Entertainment Weekly. “And kind of horrid at times, to be honest. But I really wanted to find that balance between making it a rated-R movie that would fit into mainstream culture and, at the same time, be provocative enough to elicit the feelings that you get when you see these images. There’s no substitute.”
