Lorde’s ‘Team’ Is Better Than Your Team. Listen To Her New Single.

First: “I’m kinda over getting told to throw my hands up in the air / So there” is a terrific line, even if it is a little worrisome coming from a 16-year-old girl who just made it out of New Zealand and onto the Hot 100. (At the No. 3 spot this week, which is still a little mind-boggling.) Second, everything about the description accompanying “Team,” the new Lorde single, is fantastic: “i am in paris as i release this. every street we drive down makes my eyes pop with the most incredible things carved in stone, and gilded pillars, and wrought with metal; the heroes and heroines of this city aren’t so hard to find.” Lorde! Third, the chorus sounds like Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” minus the histrionics, which is a good thing. “Team” probably isn’t her next radio hit — does she even want to make another one? — but you will enjoy it.
