A ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Producer Is Making a Movie About 2 Kids Who Remade ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’

Jeremy Coon, who produced the surprise megahit Napoleon Dynamite back in 2004, has jut purchased the rights to Radiers!, a book about two kids in Mississippi who set out to make a shot-by-shot remake Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1980s. The kids, Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala, “managed to re-stage every scene, shot and stunt in their backyards and basements,” according to Deadline. Coon is preparing to make a documentary about the film, as well as other projects with the guys.

Coon saw Strompolos and Zala’s film, Raiders Of The Lost Ark: The Adaptation, at a film festival, and said that “from a filmmaker perspective it was more inspiring than any movie I’d ever seen.” Whether the remake of the film will ever see the light of day is up for grabs, since they will probably need permission from director Steven Spielberg and writer George Lucas. But if you get a chance to see it, it’ll almost definitely be worth it; for one thing, they had to use Strompolos’s dog in the part of the monkey, tying a spring to his paw to a Nazi salute out of him.
