Jason Segel to Play David Foster Wallace in a Biopic

Jason Segel has been cast as late author David Foster Wallace in an upcoming film called The End of the Tour, The Wrap reports. The movie is based on the book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace, which journalist David Lipsky wrote about the week he spent on tour with David Foster Wallace  while writing a story about him for Rolling Stone in 1996. As Lipsky and Wallace traveled together, jealousy and competitiveness became issues between the two as Wallace was becoming a well-known author in the wake of Infinite Jest’s release.

Jesse Eisenberg will play Lipsky in the film, which will be directed by James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) and adapted by playwright Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends). Jason Segel is currently wrapping up an nine-year run on How I Met Your Mother, which concludes in May, and he’ll next be seen starring in the big-screen comedy Sex Tape alongside Cameron Diaz. The End of the Tour will be a rare dramatic role for him.
