Back in September, when we first learned that Woody Allen was going to be given the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 71st Annual Golden Globes, we thought it was all a trick to finally get him to happily attend an awards show. It didn’t work. Allen will not be accepting the award on January 12. In his stead, Deadline reports, will be longtime friend and collaborator Diane Keaton. Allen has never been to the Globes, despite thirteen nominations. His excuse for avoiding awards shows is always the same, “If you accept it when they say you deserve an award, then you have to accept it when they say you don’t.” So, in this case, Allen must be annoyed he didn’t win lifetime-achievement awards in his past lives and/or other dimensions.
