Amazon Studios Adds 3 New Comedy Pilots, Including One from Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman

Like last year, Amazon has announced its new slate of pilots, which are available for free on Amazon Instant Video and will be picked up based on which shows get the most views and positive feedback from viewers. Of the 10 pilots up for consideration this year, Amazon is offering up three new comedies:

Mozart in the Jungle - From writer-director Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman, and Broadway director Alex Timbers, Mozart in the Jungle is “based on the book by Blair Tindall” and “follows Gael Garcia Bernal as the brash new conductor of the New York Symphony and Malcolm McDowell as the old timer being pushed out.”

The Rebels - Written by Jeremy Garelick and Jon Weinbach, The Rebels had creative support from Ice Cube and former football player Michael Strahan and “follows ex-cheerleader Julie Levine (Natalie Zea) after her husband dies and leaves her the owner of the fictional Los Angeles Rebels pro-football team.”

Transparent - From Jill Soloway (United States of Tara, Afternoon Delight), Transparent centers on a dysfunctional family in Los Angeles starring Jeffrey Tambor as “the patriarch with a big secret.”

Mozart in the Jungle sounds especially intriguing, and with the hopeful renewal of Alpha House and Betas, it looks like Amazon Studios is becoming a legitimate contender in the online comedy series game.
