Cristela Alonzo’s Semi-Autobiographical Comedy Lands Pilot Presentation at ABC

Standup Cristela Alonzo – who got a Comedy Central half-hour special last year – has been given a pilot presentation for a semi-autobiographical multi-cam comedy she created and stars in. According to Deadline, Cristela follows the standup as “an American Latina straddling cultures while not fully belonging to either. Cristela, in her sixth year of law school and living rent-free with her sister and brother-in-law, hopes to land a prestigious law firm internship as her mother hectors her about getting a real job, her brother-in-law encourages her to move out and her sister runs low on patience.” The show is co-written by Alonzo and Kevin Hench and will be directed by John Pasquin; both of Alonzo’s collaborators most recently worked on the ABC Tim Allen series Last Man Standing.
