In an interview posted today on the Daily Beast, True Detective director Cary Joji Fukunaga makes a throwaway reference to an early Matthew McConaughey performance: “Have you seen McConaughey in Unsolved Mysteries? Even back then, it’s a great performance! And he’s mowing the lawn.” Here’s a clip from that episode. As you can see, McConaughey’s nearly shirtless, naturally. Also, he gets shot, unfortunately.
