Ellen Page’s Coming-Out Speech Will Probably Bring You to Tears

While addressing the Human Rights Campaign’s inaugural conference in Las Vegas for a group of nearly 600 educators and counselors who work with LGBTQ youth, Ellen Page opened her speech by coming out as a gay woman. In an emotional eight minutes, the Juno actress describes the trouble with being yourself in a Hollywood that “places crushing standards on all of us.” She admitted these “standards of beauty. Of a good life. Of success,” have affected her, but now wants to stop “hiding and…lying by omission.” We especially love the part when she answers a fashion critic’s question: “Why does [this] petite beauty insist upon dressing like a massive man?” and can’t wait to see what projects out and proud Page picks up next.
