HIMYM fans who are still recovering from the bombshell series finale might find some solace in an update from TV Line, in which cast member Alyson Hannigan revealed that the episode originally included a brief scene of Tracy’s funeral, which also played out in the “perfect” taped table reading. “Honestly, if you saw [that] cut, it would be even more heart-wrenching than what the finale was,” Hannigan said. “They were like, ‘No. It’s just too gut-wrenching.’ And I was like, ‘That’s what I want. I want my heart ripped out and slammed on the floor and, like, stomped on!’” Series creator Carter Bays has promised a bonus alternate ending for the complete series DVD set, but it’s not yet known whether or not it will include the table read or “one-second montage” of Tracy’s funeral as well.
