Freaks and Geeks’s Paul Feig Will Help Yahoo Launch Its Original Programming

Freaks and Geeks creator Paul Feig is returning to television, or at least internet television. Yahoo, making its biggest push yet into original long-form series production, has ordered eight episodes of a Feig-produced half-hour comedy called Other Space. According to Yahoo, the show takes place in the early 22nd century and revolves around a group of space voyagers who’ve stumbled upon an alternate universe “far stranger and way more dangerous than ours.” The motley crew (these spaceships are always filled with motley crews) will explore the new world while trying to get back to theirs. Other Space is expected to debut sometime next year, with Yahoo promising to release the episodes “all at once,” a la Netfix.

Also coming to the Yahoo Screen service (available on Apple TV and Roku, as well as the web) is Sin City Saints, an NBA-themed comedy about Las Vegas’s first pro sports franchise and its clueless owner/mogul (not Donald Sterling, apparently.) Mike Tollin, of Arli$$ and Varsity Blues fame, is producing the eight-episode show, along with director Bryan Gordon (Party Down). Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced both projects Monday evening at the internet giant’s “Newfront” presentation to advertisers in New York.
