Yahoo Orders a Sci-Fi Comedy Series from Paul Feig

Yahoo is expanding into half-hour comedies, and Variety reports that the company has ordered a show from Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Freaks and Geeks) called Other Space. Feig will executive produce the show, which follows a ragtag bunch of space adventurers who accidentally end up in an alternate universe. Yahoo has ordered eight episodes, but there’s no word on when the show will premiere.  Feig has described the show as “a passion project” and a compared it to a sci-fi version of The Office.

Feig actually sold Other Space to NBC years ago, but as he tells The NY Times, he and NBC parted ways on the project over creative differences. The network wanted it shot like a traditional sitcom, but Feig didn’t.

Other Space is one of two half-hour comedies Yahoo announced today. The other, Sin City Saints, follows a Las Vegas-based professional basketball expansion team, and it comes from Smallville and One Tree Hill producer Mike Tollin and Party Down and Curb Your Enthusiasm director Bryan Gordon. Both Other Space and Sin City Saints will premiere on Yahoo’s streaming service Yahoo Screen all at once, instead of premiering weekly like broadcast series.
