‘About a Boy’ Becomes the First NBC Comedy to Get a Second Season in Two Years

NBC renewed its new midseason sitcom About a Boy for a second season today, Deadline reports. This makes the show the first new NBC comedy to earn a second season renewal since Up All Night and Whitney in 2012. The renewal comes as no surprise because the About a Boy has consistently earned strong ratings since its February premiere, partially thanks to a cushy timeslot after The Voice. Created by Jason Katims (Parenthood), About a Boy is based on the Nick Hornby novel and Hugh Grant movie of the same name, and it stars David Walton, Benjamin Stockham, Al Madrigal, and Minnie Driver.

About a Boy is the second comedy NBC has renewed this year, following Parks and Recreation. The fate of the network’s other sitcoms, Community and Growing Up Fisher,  is up in the air.

UPDATE: Growing Up Fisher and Community have both been canceled.
