‘Beverly Hills Cop IV’ Set for a Spring 2016 Release

After over a decade in development a new sequel to Beverly Hills Cop is one step closer to happening. Paramount has set a release date for Beverly Hills Cop IV for May 25, 2016, Deadline says. The sequel will find Axel Foley returning to his hometown of Detroit.

As previously reported, Eddie Murphy will be reprising the role of Foley, with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec writing the script and Brett Ratner directing. Beverly Hills Cop IV, which has been in development since in various stages since the late ‘90s, came close to happening in 2008, also with Murphy and Ratner (script review here) but was canceled and then resurrected as a TV pilot following Axel Foley’s son, Aaron Foley (played by Brandon T. Jackson), which CBS passed on last year. The TV version falling apart led to plans for a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film, which will be the first in the series since Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994, being resurrected.
