Deadline reports that Alan Alda is joining the cast of The Longest Ride, an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name. Directed by George Tillman Jr., The Longest Ride follows the intertwining stories of two couples: an elderly man injured in a car crash (Alda) who experiences flashbacks to his departed wife, and a college student who falls in love with a wounded bullfighter. The Fault in Our Stars’ Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing, with Fault screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber penning the script, in case you had any doubts that this is going to be a real weeper. On the plus side, it’s not scheduled until April 2015, so you should have had time to replenish your tear ducts by then.
