IFC announced a bunch of stuff about its newest comedy Garfunkel and Oates today. Created by and starring Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci and based on the duo’s musical comedy act of the same name, Garfunkel and Oates was given an eight-episode order for a first season by IFC last year. Here’s all the new stuff about the show that IFC revealed today:
Guest stars for the first two episodes include Ben Kingsley, Chris Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Anthony Jeselnik, Abby Elliott, Natasha Leggero, Chris Parnell, Steve Agee, and John Oates of Hall & Oates fame.
The show will premiere Thursday, August 7th at 10pm.
Dennis McNicholas, who wrote for SNL from 1995 to 2004 and was head writer there alongside Tina Fey from 2000 to 2004, is the showrunner for Garfunkel and Oates.
The first episode finds Kate Micucci in an acting audition for the part of “Hot Slut” against Ben Kingsley, with the second one following Garfunkel and Oates competing against a female duo that makes porn parodies of their music videos, Garfinger and Butts, who are in danger of becoming more popular than Garfunkel and Oates.
