Jay Leno Is Close to a Deal for His Own Show on CNBC

It hasn’t even been a year since Jay Leno left The Tonight Show, but the comedian is already lining up his next TV hosting gig. THR reports that Leno “is close to a deal” to host a new primetime show for CNBC focused on Leno’s love for cars, though it’s not yet known whether it’ll air nightly or weekly. Since leaving his Tonight Show post in February, Leno has reportedly been approached by CNN, A&E, History, and Tribune stations for potential new shows, but it looks like his longtime loyalty to NBC Universal was a deciding factor in his new TV home. It’s not known yet when CNBC plans to debut Leno’s new show, but it won’t be his first time on the network; he also hosted a CNBC Labor Day special called Jay Leno’s Garage: The Ultimate Car Wreck based off his ongoing NBC web series of the same name.

UPDATE: THR confirms that Leno’s show – tentatively titled Jay Leno’s Garage – is now set to premiere on CNBC sometime next year. “This show will be about anything that rolls, explodes and makes noise,” said Leno in a statement. “We hope to highlight the passion and the stories behind the men and women who made the automobile the greatest invention of the 20th century.”
