It’s Looking Like Molly Ringwald Won’t Sing in Jem and the Holograms

It has never been clear what role Molly Ringwald would play in Jem and the Holograms, Jon M. Chu’s big-screen adaptation of the popular ‘80s cartoon, but the actress revealed a bit when Vulture caught up with her at the New Yorker Festival party this weekend. “I play Aunt Bailey, who’s sort of the mother character to this young female rock group,” Ringwald told us. “Two of the kids are my own, and two are adopted, so I’m like their inspiration.” Yet despite having experience as a singer — Ringwald is currently performing at Café Carlyle in New York — she doesn’t get to open her pipes in Jem. “It’s funny, I’m the one person that doesn’t sing in the movie,” she said.
