Watch Keegan-Michael Key and Nyima Funk in a 2002 Second City Sketch

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

This week’s clip comes from Second City’s 2002 E.T.C. revue Curious George Goes to War, which featured ensemble performers Samantha Albert, Jean Villepique, Andy Cobb, Nyima Funk, Peter Grosz, and Keegan-Michael Key. In the above sketch, Key and Funk play two very different Chicago couples who have an interesting chat about the neighborhood and each other from the comfort of their porches. Considering how well these two played off each other back in 2002, it’s no surprise that a decade later, Funk would play Key’s wife in a sketch during the series premiere of Key and Peele on Comedy Central.
