The third film of the Taken franchise — starring bad-ass dad Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace — still had some skills and took the box office with $40.4 million over the weekend. Ava DuVernay’s Golden Globe–nominated MLK Jr. drama, Selma, opened to semi-wide release (to around 2,100 theaters) and brought in a more modest $11.2 million. Otherwise, the rest of the top five fell in a familiar line. Into the Woods demonstrated strong staying power to come in third with $9.7 million. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Unbroken brought in $9.8 million and $9.4 million, respectively.
