Supergirl, CBS’s entry into TV’s ever-escalating superhero-show arms race, has found its lead: Melissa Benoist will play 24-year-old Kryptonian Kara Zor-El in the upcoming Greg Berlanti series. Benoist is most famous for playing one of the next-generation New Directions members in Glee; more recently, she was Miles Teller’s girlfriend in Whiplash. Of course, since Teller is playing Mr. Fantastic and J.K. Simmons was J. Jonah Jameson, this leaves Paul Reiser as the only Whiplash cast member not to have a superhero project of his own. Somebody cast that guy as Phantom Stranger!
