Afroman, the artist best known for “Because I Got High,” got arrested on Tuesday for punching a fan in the face in Biloxi, Mississippi. The rapper was playing guitar when a woman climbed onstage and got too close for comfort, according to TMZ and fan-captured video. Afroman then unleashed a right-handed haymaker on the attendee and continued his set till Kress Live’s house lights came on and police cuffed him. Security and a fan helped the woman, who was crying and bleeding, offstage.
Afroman’s rep told Billboard: “This was a completely involuntary reflex reaction to people infringing on his stage space. … It was uncharacteristic behavior that was initiated by outside, uncontrolled forces.” Forces that, according to the rep, could’ve been avoided if there had been better security at the concert because Afroman has a problem with fans jumping onstage. TMZ added that after being booked for assault, Afroman paid a $330 bond and was released shortly after the incident.
