After three shows full of racist jokes, interminable montages, and charmless monologues, Oscars producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are hinting that they will not return for next year’s awards. “Hoping that whoever produces the #Oscars next year will retain our innovations,” Zadan tweeted on Sunday, a reference to the duo’s Team Oscar contest and more inclusive nomination ceremony but not to their most surprising invention, Unfunny Neil Patrick Harris. Ratings for the last Oscars were the lowest since 2009, though in fairness to Zadan and Meron, the 2014 ceremony did see the show’s highest ratings in a decade. Whoever lands the gig next year is advised to just make every bit a selfie.
