Rob Schneider has a new autobiographical sitcom in the works. According to Deadline, the SNL alum is shopping a new half-hour show called Real Rob! at the MipTV conference in Cannes next month that “centers on Schneider as a version of himself, along with his wife and his incompetent assistant whom he cannot fire because he is his friend, and personal stalker.” The documentary-style show is described as an “exaggerated yet brutally honest depiction of Schneider’s real life” and includes standup bits similar to Louie and early Seinfeld. Schneider self-financed the eight-episode single-cam series and co-wrote the episodes with his wife Patricia Azarcoya and comedian Jamie Lissow, and David Spade, George Lopez, and Norm Macdonald all make guest appearances throughout the season. According to IMDB, some episodes we can look forward to include “The Penis Episode Part 1,” “Gaying in Shape,” and “The Penis Episode Part 2.”
Schneider’s inspiration for the project stems from his frustrations over his canceled CBS sitcom Rob (formerly titled ¡Rob!), which did well in the ratings thanks to its Big Bang Theory lead-in but was widely panned by critics (The Daily Beast crowned it “TV’s worst new show”): “Eleven million viewers is not enough for them, it’s enough for me,” Schneider said in a statement. “I’ll do it myself.” Hopefully Schneider finds a home for the project, because he’s already planning production on season 2 to begin this summer.
