Many people were angry when Sean Penn made a green-card joke about Mexican director Alejandro Iñárritu at the Oscars, and now Penn has a predictably pugilistic response to those people. “I’m surprised by the flagrant stupidity,” Penn told the AP, in a way that sounded like he wasn’t really surprised. “In fact, I have a big f— you for … anybody who is so stupid not to have gotten the irony when you have a country that is so xenophobic. If they had their way, you wouldn’t have great filmmakers like Alejandro working in this country.” Penn, who is friends with Iñárritu, called the joke “a little inside humor.”
