According to the Times, David Bowie has been secretly working on a stage version of The Man Who Fell to Earth, the 1976 Nicolas Roeg film in which he played an alien while being “stoned out of [his] mind.” The play, which is called Lazarus, is a collaboration with Once’s Enda Walsh and director Ivo van Hove, and it will open at the New York Theater Workshop in late 2015. Though Bowie is writing new songs for the show, no one involved is sure whether or not to call it a musical. They do know that Bowie won’t be appearing in the play, which means that Bradley Cooper just found the role of a lifetime.
