Harold Ramis Looks Back on Working at the ‘SCTV’ ‘Comedy House’ with John Candy

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

This week’s clip is from a 1999 SCTV panel moderated by Kevin Dorff featuring writers/performers Tim Kazurinsky, Peter Murrieta, Jeff Garlin, Tom Gianas, Adam McKay, Jon Glaser, Tina Fey, Jenna Jolovitz, and the late Harold Ramis. In the clip, Ramis looks back on writing with stars like John Candy while living together in the SCTV “comedy house” in Los Angeles, where late night partying often led to some ideas that weren’t as easy to remember the next day. Check out a clip of John Candy performing at Second City Chicago’s 25th anniversary special in 1985 here.
