Jim Carrey might be headed to Showtime. According to Variety, the network has given a pilot order to an hourlong show called I’m Dying Up Here executive produced by Carrey and written by Dave Flebotte (The Bernie Mac Show, Desperate Housewives, Masters of Sex) based on the 2009 book by William Knoedelseder. The show will be set in the Hollywood comedy club circuit of the ‘70s, and the pilot “will delve into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious, yet complex business of making an audience laugh.” 50/50’s Jonathan Levine will direct the pilot, which begins production this fall.
