Getting Intimate with Diana Kolsky and Murf Meyer of the Ménage à Trois Radio Podcast

Pour yourself a glass of wine, turn on your favorite sensual music, light some candles, and prepare yourself for the sexiest interview you’ll ever read. The Ménage à Trois radio podcast is hosted by “real life lovers” Diana Kolsky and Murf Meyer. Every week they invite a new guest like Ilana Glazer, Chris Gethard, or Amy Poehler on the show to talk about love, sex and overall horniness. Both are regular performers at UCB New York and in fact do a raunchy live Ménage à Trois show every month at the theater (the next one is Friday the 25th). She’s a standup comedian and improviser and has been seen on The Chris Gethard Show doing random weird characters as well as in videos for sites like Above Average. He’s a regular and the announcer on The Chris Gethard show and is also a writer, improviser and has been seen in shows like Broad City. Together they’re so charming and funny, they make you want to jump right in bed with them.

Hello Lovers! For those that don’t know, tell us about Ménage à Trois, both the podcast and the live show.

Diana: The live show, we want it to be more of an extension of the podcast, not just a live recording of a podcast. So, we usually try to incorporate some song and dance numbers…

Murf: Audience participation…

Diana: …original videos, costumes, music, fog machine.

Murf: Dildos…

Diana: Yeah, dildos taped to the wall. So we try to bring the spirit of the podcast to life, so I feel like it’s kind of its own animal a little bit. It’s a lot of fun.

How long have you two been lovers?

Murf:  We’ve been lovers for probably almost four years.

Diana: We get that question a lot. I feel like we should figure it out.

Murf: I know. We should have the goddamn date marked or something.

Diana: We met at a comedy class at UCB taught by Chris Gethard and we were friends first and we made out drunk after class. Then we decided not to bone, because we were like, “We’re going to work together. We’re going to write a show and be comedians, and we’re not going to muddy the waters.” Then eventually we started boning, and then we moved in together right away and now we’re married.

How long have you been married?

Diana: Yes. That I do know. We’ve been married for a year and a half.

You did obviously muddy the waters and I know that it can get a little tricky. How do you navigate the part and keep those lines separate to not cause problem in either the working or personal side of things?

Murf: I think we’re both free spirits. We’re opinionated, but we agree on most shit and stuff we don’t we just kind of figure it out. I actually love the living together, working together, everything together. I think we were just a little tentative at first, because that can get tricky, but I think we’re old enough too, we’re not kids. It’s, “Let’s just live our lives and not worry about it.” I think it’s worked out pretty well since then.

Diana: Yeah, we got lucky. I think it’s fun… I mean it is work, but it’s also play. It’s getting to play together. The live show is so much fun. Our podcast is really fun. It’s a chance to sit down, have a cocktail, talk to someone fun about sex stories.

What do you like to do on those days where you’re like, “I just need to go do something non-comedy or non-career related”?

Murf: We like to get high and go to the movies. There’s a Thai restaurant and an ice cream spot we used to go to in our old neighborhood. Like last night was a nice night of just walking around. We were like, “Let’s not talk about anything. Let’s just hit the vape and walk around for a little bit.”

Diana: Also, we do different things, like Murf watches a lot of sports. I read in the park. We do stuff other than comedy.

Murf: You need to shut it off every now and again. Otherwise you lose your mind.

What’s your favorite episode or who was your favorite guest on the podcast?

Murf: That’s a good one. Umm… Bridget Everett was great. She was very fun. Henry Zebrowski was a really fun one.

Diana: Jake Fogelnest was really fun. It’s like our children. We love them all the same, but differently.

Murf: We had Kaki King on recently and then she also did our live show, which our most recent live show was just us improvising for forty-five minutes and she’s an amazing guitarist. So she was just scoring the whole thing on her guitar. Then she also went above and beyond and built us a sound board out of five dildos and put different sounds effects in there when we wanted to edit our scenes.

What?!

Murf: Yeah. I mean, it was a display.

Diana: It was off the chain.

Murf: So, whenever we wanted to edit an improv scene, we would walk over and it had this… it was rigged… I don’t know exactly how the technology worked, but we put metal towards the dildo and it would play a sound effect. Very different shapes and sized dildos. It really went over well. The audience was on board.

That’s amazing!

Murf: Yeah, it was a spectacle.

You can’t improvise any other way now.

Murf: I know. We’ve kind of set the bar for ourselves. We’re never going to not have dildos again.

Diana: It was very sensual in like the literal version of the word. We had tactile components and music. It was an insane situation. That was a great episode! I think something that’s really unique; we did it for a really long time where we were just podcast babies. We did an episode with Jimmy Mcmillan who’s the founder of The Rent is Too Damn High party. He’s insane.

Murf: He runs for mayor in New York all the time.

Diana: In that episode, I think we completely lost control, but that was fun to me. Because you know, we do a lot of comedians and musicians, which we love, but getting a political guy in there and he’s talking about his experience in Vietnam…

Murf: And he still put the sexual spin on everything too. So he was telling us about Vietnam, but at the same time he was telling us how when they were in foxholes they would just dig holes in the mud and that’s how they would get off.

What?

Murf: They would like, jerk-off in the mud… yeah. Which Oliver Stone did not put in Platoon. We weren’t prepared for that.

Diana: I think it’s episodes like that where I feel like we actually are doing something really unique, those are always fun.

What is the sexiest fail you’ve personally ever had?

Murf: Well, the one that immediately came to my mind is when we first moved in together. You know, I feel like you get into a relationship and you maybe get a little bit sloppy. We were eating a lot, doing the dessert upon dessert situation. We were comfortable drinking and eating heavily, so we put on a few pounds. I think one night we were in the middle of some lovemaking and I had to shit pretty badly. It just hit me. I just wasn’t taking care of myself for a couple months.

Diana: We were having sex and he goes, “I gotta shit!” And pulled out and ran away.

Murf: It was going to happen on the floor, so I had to… yeah. So that’ll kill the mood a little.

Then you finished your business and you went back to it, right? Simple as that.

Murf: Yeah, exactly.

Diana: Probably not.

(They both laugh.)

Diana: I’m trying to think of another story, but I don’t know!!!

Well maybe you’re too much of a perfect sex goddess that you don’t have any fails. That’s okay.

Murf: That’s the truth!

We will print that in the papers!

Murf: A direct quote, “sex goddess.”

Diana: My sex is always perfect.

Does your family listen to the podcast? Have they ever commented on it?

Diana: My mom texted me once, and she and my uncle were listening and she texted, “What is reverse cowgirl?” I was like, “Uhh…” So I just tried to explain it as technically as I could. I think that was the last time she probably listened.

Murf: My parents are strangely, stereotypically confused with the Internet and how things work. I think they’ve listened to a couple episodes when I’m home. My mom was like, “Show me how I download a podcast and listen to it,” but otherwise they’re very supportive, but I don’t think they gone through the catalogue and listened to it.

This is a very important question, what kind of animal couple do you think make the best lovers?

Murf/Diana: Ooh!!

Diana: Maybe whales?

Murf: Whales and wolves I would say. Both mammals, but one’s got…

Diana: …the sea…

Murf: …as it’s entire bedroom. And I don’t know, wolves and dens. We always connected to wolves, I feel.

Diana: Oh yeah, we’re definitely wolves.

Murf: I think wintertime, especially. You know, you get into the den and you fuck it out all winter. And sometimes you shit in the den. Sometimes it happens.

Diana: Also, if you can kill something together…

Murf: Oh, the hunt.

Diana: Yeah, the hunt could be something. Then you bite its throat out. Maybe it’s some kind of gorgeous deer or gazelle. And then you drink its blood.

Murf: Mmmhmm… then you order some chicken wings, I mean…

Diana: Yeah, that’s working together.

Murf: Recently we’ve been doing a thing on the show where when we talk about something even though our listeners can’t actual see it we’re like, “Oh, we’re looking at this clip.” Then we describe it to them, so there’s fun in that. We recently had one where we started talking about whale penises and someone was explaining it to us, I think it was Jen Jaffe, how different genitals on different animals work. She’s been very interested about it and has been reading up on it. We talked about these humpback whales penises and we ended up looking at a video of that. There’s nothing more erotic than penises of that size kind of sword fighting, coming together…

Diana: The penises can fight and grasp and stuff. It kind of seems like a sci-fi, sex masterpiece. I also like the idea of whales having their own language.

Murf: Oh yeah. They call to each other.

Diana: And the blowhole is interesting. I don’t know.

They were sword fighting. Does that mean that whales were gay?

Murf: From my understanding of it, two dudes will sword fight with the penises and they wrap around each other. I think sometimes you cum when you’re just wrestling around too much. I don’t know if that’s true.

Diana: I’d like to say we are not scientists.

Murf: No, we are not marine biologists.

Diana: We have no idea what we’re talking about. I think intelligent mammal species are more likely to be homosexual. I know that that happens. Otters…

Murf: Penguins, bonobos.

I have a gay dog, so it’s definitively a thing. Have you seen #junkoff? It’s these scientists showing the genitalia of different animals. It’s insane.

Murf: Oh that’s perfect! We should check that out.

Diana: I think we have a serious call to animals, like animal sex and a lot of animal dick stuff.

Then you’ll love this!

Murf: Lot of material.

Diana: The duck has the corkscrew dick, the cats have the barbed dick. I think koalas have three dicks.

Murf: Gorillas have the uncircumcised dicks.

Diana: Oh, we just read about this! Hyenas, the women grow their clitoris to look like a penis, because they’re the dominant gender in their community. It’s really crazy.

Do you have any upcoming projects that you’re excited about?

Murf: I have a pilot that I co-wrote and star in that’s coming up. We’re official selection for the New York Television Festival, so we screen in October. We’re pretty pumped for that. There were like 5,000 submissions this year. They only picked fifty of them. Bridget Everett also has a role in that, so it was fun to do scenes with her.

Diana: I have a cameo!

Murf: Diana has a really fun cameo. So yeah, that’s one thing we’re gearing up for. And we’re in between seasons of The Chris Gethard Show. Season 2 is not an official thing yet, but we’re working on it. Season 1 went really well.

Yeah, it was killer!

Diana: We have a monthly show, the Ménage a Trois live show, second Saturday of every month at midnight.

Murf: That’s a good spot, because, we did one at 9:30pm, a little earlier as a fill in. It was a good crowd and it was fun, but I think our midnight audience we can really get down.

Diana: That’s our sweet spot, after dark.

What do you have in store for your fans?

Diana: I think the sky’s the limit. We just did that weird thing with Kaki King, we’ve never done anything like that. That was basically a long sex dream, improvised, audio experience? I think we are trying to mix it up.

Murf: Yeah, try to experiment with a few things, take some chances and do some fun shows. See where it goes from there. I think the live show, like we said before, is it’s own animal. We love doing the podcast every week and we have our format that we stick to, but a live show if fun to get a little strange and see what happens.
