An Adaptation of Austrian Comedy ‘Braunschlag’ Is in the Works at ABC

Last year, Fox put into development an adaptation of the hourlong Australian comedy series Braunschlag starring Rob Riggle and written by The Office’s Steve Hely, and while the project didn’t get a series order, it just got a second chance over at ABC. According to Deadline, the latest attempt at a Braunschlag adaptation is in the works at ABC, but the character Riggle was attached to play in the Fox version has been gender-swapped and The McCarthys’ Brian Gallivan will write and co-executive produce alongside director Seth Gordon (The Goldbergs). The ABC version will center on a “young small town mayor named Emma Wolf” who “has dysfunctional siblings, a dying father, disgruntled citizens, a nearly bankrupt town, and the mafia breathing down her neck. Only a miracle can help her. So… she fakes one.” Check out a trailer for the original series below:
