Michael J. Fox Finally Got His Pair of Self-Tying Back to the Future Nike Shoes

October 21, 2015. Back to the Future Day has arrived, and while we don’t have all of the promised gadgets of Dr. Emmett Brown’s imagined future, Michael J. Fox does have one of them. With a name appropriate for such an invention, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield sent Fox the first pair of Nike kicks with “power laces” — the self-tying shoes seen in Back to the Future Part II. Hatfield wrote Fox a letter saying, “As the first, most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air Mag, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair.” Back in 2011, Nike auctioned 1,500 replicas (without power-lacing technology) and gave the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and it’ll be producing these shoes to do the same thing in 2016. Now, about that hoverboard?
