Russia Is Finally Getting the ‘Roseanne’ TV Adaptation It Deserves

A new Roseanne series is coming back to television, but not in the country you might think. Variety reports that Sony Pictures Television has received a pilot order for a Russian adaptation of the classic ‘90s sitcom Roseanne, which will “show a real working class family getting through each day, laughing at the trials and tribulations life sends their way and making the audience smile along with them.” The Russian version of the show will be renamed Katya. Roseanne isn’t the first hit American sitcom to get its own Russian adaptation – according to Deadline, Married… with Children, The Nanny, and The King of Queens have all been adapted, and Russia’s take on Everybody Loves Raymond (called The Voronins) currently holds the record as the longest-running scripted show in the country.
