Grimes Has Plenty of Halloween-Costume Inspiration for You in Her Bloody New Video

Will Grimes make a go at the pop charts with her fourth album? Well, that depends on how you define pop. But her new two-part song, “Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream,” is decidedly not the electro “future pop” of 2012’s Visions that made her a star online. Her new album, Art Angels, out next week, appears to be experimenting with something closer to the pop-punk of Charli XCX’s last album (but maybe not), with a bloodier twist. Her K-pop-inspired new video (which leaked over the weekend) puts her at the center of various vignettes, in which she plays an angelic cowgirl and a very colorful Marie Antoinette character — were she stabbed in the chest and not beheaded — among other things. It’s the perfect precursor to Halloween, and probably the best way for Grimes to prepare her fans for a reinvention.
