Charlie Sheen Discusses Being HIV-Positive on the Today Show

As we learned would happen yesterday, Charlie Sheen was on the Today show this morning to discuss being HIV-positive. In the interview, which you can watch above, Sheen explains he wanted to set the record straight and silence the rumors and blackmailers. “I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, that threaten the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth,” he tells Matt Lauer. Sheen revealed that he has known he has had HIV for four years, and has told every single sexual partner since. Sheen says he did not use intravenous drugs and is unsure of how he contracted the virus.

Later in the episode, Sheen had his doctor join him. With Lauer, they discuss that despite rumors, Sheen does not have AIDS. Moreover, he currently has an undetectable level of the virus in his blood. You can watch that portion of the interview below.

Sheen’s most recent ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, has responded to the news, telling People that both she and their 6-year-old twin boys are HIV-negative. Mueller was married to Sheen from 2008 to 2011.
