These Two New Justin Bieber Songs Have a Lot of Mean Things to Say About Selena Gomez (Probably)

In four days, a new Justin Bieber album will be upon us. But Biebs is impatient, so he dropped off two new songs on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show this afternoon. The first, “The Feeling,” is a surefire hit that features Tumblr icon Halsey. “Am I in love with you, or am I in love with the feeling?” he wonders. Somewhere, Selena Gomez sips on her metaphorical gin and juice. Then on “Love Yourself,” an acoustic ditty written with Ed Sheeran (who’s been known to burn his exes via song), things get ugly: “All the times that you rain on my parade / And all the clubs you get in using my name / You think you broke my heart, oh girl for goodness sake / You think I’m crying, oh my oh, well no I ain’t.” Later he drops the lowest blow: “Maybe you should know that my mama don’t like you and she likes everyone.” Songwriting hasn’t been this gloriously petty since Carly Simon. But does Selena need to use Bieber’s name to get into a club? And wasn’t she the one who reportedly reunited Justin and his mom, which means Mama Biebs couldn’t really have disliked her that much? Who knows. Either way, if Bieber holds out hope of getting back together with Selena at some point (as he just told Ellen), maybe he shouldn’t drag her in one (or more) of his songs.
