You can add one more data point to The Force Awakens’s Rotten Tomatoes audience score: George Lucas has seen the new film and, according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, he “really liked it.” Kennedy also announced Lucas would attend the premiere of the upcoming Star Wars film, because you can’t release a new film by a new director in a franchise without the old one in the background giving an elementary-school soccer dad–style thumbs-up. Kennedy’s news comes after Lucas has made it through a pretty glum press tour, during which he compared his relationship to the Star Wars franchise after selling it to Disney as a “divorce” and saying that if he kept involved he’d feel “miserable.” So if you see Lucas during the premiere — a.k.a. his visitation period with the franchise — make sure to check in, tell him to breathe, relax, and maybe offer him a light snack. The film is good, George, it’ll all be okay. In other news, Lucas is now one of only a few confirmed Force Awakens viewers, a group which already includes Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher, and Carrie Fisher’s dog. They have all enjoyed the film.
