Stephnie Weir Delivers an Honest Momologue at The Second City in 1998

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

With the news that MADtv will air a special 20th anniversary episode next month featuring almost 20 former cast members, this week’s clip stars a MADtv and Second City alum in a scene that pays respect to the unsung heroes of family get-togethers: moms. From Second City’s 1998 revue The Psychopath Not Taken featuring ensemble performers Kevin Dorff, T.J. Jagodowski, Susan Messing, Tami Sagher, Rich Talarico, and Stephnie Weir, “Mom” is a familiar scene to anyone who has to attend loud family dinners but might not know what’s really going through Mom’s mind as she admits to herself, in Weir’s words, “Maybe I’m afraid that my precious little pissants won’t ever really know me.” Check out another clip of Weir at the same show here.
