Stone Temple Pilots Share a Gorgeous Unreleased Version of ‘Atlanta’ in Memory of Scott Weiland

Stone Temple Pilots lost their captivating former front man Scott Weiland earlier this month to an accidental drug overdose, and now the band’s remaining members are paying tribute to the late singer the only way they know how: through their music. Rolling Stone has shared a video that Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz put together in which they eulogize Weiland with an unreleased version of “Atlanta,” off the band’s fourth album, No. 4. “We feel it represents one of the times in our career that Scott was truly at his best,” they say before walking fans through the recording, describing Weiland’s emotional vulnerability and underrated vocal performance. The original was already a soaring rock ballad for a lover, but this version, given the context, is something even more special. Go ahead and have a good cry.
