We knew this day would come eventually, but that doesn’t make it any easier: Actor Abe Vigoda has actually, truly died at the age of 94, TMZ reports. He had reportedly been under hospice care for a week. The Barney Miller star was first reported dead in an issue of People magazine in 1982, and the subject of his mortality became a long-running Hollywood joke in the years afterward, with Vigoda often joining David Letterman and Conan O’Brien to make fun of his supposed demise. The rumor of Vigoda’s death even prompted the creation of a single-line website, AbeVigoda.com, which simply reported that the actor was still alive; on Tuesday, the site was updated for the first and only time.
