Jimmy Smits’s long and storied career playing politicians will continue this year, as Fox announced he’s been cast as a U.S. senator in its upcoming 24 reboot, 24: Legacy. Smits will take the role of Senator John Donovan, husband of Miranda Otto’s character. (Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins will play the lead, an Army veteran who gets drawn back into trouble over the course of one terrible day.) Besides playing president Matt Santos on the West Wing, Smits also played Bail Organa, First Chairman of Alderaan and a member of the Galactic Senate in two of the Star Wars prequels. Organa was later blown up, alongside all of his constituents, by the Death Star, which we hope does not happen in this show.
