Netflix is getting into the sketch comedy game. The streaming network just revealed that it’s ordered an original sketch comedy series titled The Characters that features eight comedians who are “given the opportunity to of a lifetime: to create their own 30-minute episode and do whatever they want.” The lineup is an exciting one: Lauren Lapkus, Kate Berlant, Dr. Brown, Paul W. Downs, John Early, Tim Robinson, Natasha Rothwell, and Henry Zebrowski. Here’s more info from the press release:
One show. Eight comedians. Multiple personalities. In Netflix Presents: The Characters, the next generation of comedians get a chance that only Netflix could offer: the opportunity to create their own 30-minute episodes and do whatever they want. No rules. No limits. Each comedian writes and appears in his/her episode, presenting a series of sketches that veer wildly from Bachelor parodies, to music videos, to biblical spoofs… all in the name of outlaw comedy.
The show also includes cameos from Cecily Strong, Bobby Moynihan, Tyson Beckford, Abbi Jacobson, and more and debuts on Netflix Friday, March 11th. Check out the trailer below:
