Octavia Spencer is starring in a historical drama about black women helping each other. The Oscar winner has signed on to Hidden Figures, which follows the group of female African-American mathematicians behind many of America’s first missions into space. Taraji P. Henson is headlining the project as Katherine Johnson, who helped plot the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit along with her colleagues, one of whom will be played by Spencer. The film is based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly. It’s coming January 13, 2017, to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.
The Harriet Tubman film with Tracy Jordan will have to wait.
